Instead of a tissue biopsy, which often requires an incision or needle entry, a liquid biopsy looks for tiny pieces of tumor DNA (circulating tumor DNA, or ctDNA) and, when present, circulating tumor cells in your blood. By analyzing these components, we can uncover key genetic mutations and other characteristics of your tumor, helping your care team tailor treatment to your unique cancer profile.

In practical terms, the process is simple and comfortable. A routine blood draw collects a sample, which is then sent to accredited laboratories for analysis. The results provide important insights into which mutations are driving the cancer, how the tumor might respond to specific therapies, and whether the cancer is changing over time. This enables more precise and personalized treatment decisions, and it can be especially helpful for monitoring how well a therapy is working or detecting resistance early, sometimes even when imaging isn’t showing changes yet.
